Broken Horizons: While responding to a distress beacon, you crash land on the distant world of Charon. Finding yourself on a dying world caught between warring factions for scarce resources and technology run rampant leaves you with no choice but to get involved.
The New Frontier Coalition has long been a source of relative stability out in the recesses of the Alpha Centauri system. Until recently, they were able to secure all the Zeronium, the lifeblood of their energy-based economy, they needed. Even amongst a rebellion from the Dominion, hellbent on total restructuring of society on Charon, the New Frontier Coalition held together the loose alliances based on mutually-shared interests until now. The burden from losing Jormad to a Dominion invasion seems to have been too great a burden, and now things are falling apart rather quickly.
Back on Earth, the United Nations Federation struggles to maintain its own legitimacy, as grudges from the past resurface while resources continue to dwindle. Taking a renewed interest in the Alpha Centauri system, and the colony of Charon in particular, the UNF responds to a distress beacon. You are an operative, assisted by your AI companion, Neuro, and you've been chosen to investigate. A blast takes down your shuttle, forcing a crash landing and severing communication with the UNF Audere Semper that sent you.
Nearby is the town of Delarus, having its mayoral election with a refugee camp open to all, including you. To the south is the NFC capitol of New Centaurus, to the north the Dominion capitol of Dominion Prime. Between Delarus and Dominion Prime is the town of Jormad, which had been under NFC control until the Dominion invaded and captured Jormad without a fight. Now, cybernetic beings called the Zerran have begun popping up everywhere, attacking everyone in sight. Chaos unfolds around you, making it hard to tell who might have sent the distress beacon, or why.
Following the distress beacon to the southwest, you find a mountain continuously on fire from the extreme heat during the day. Waiting for nightfall, you scale the mountain to find cybernetic Zerran battling UNF forces at some kind of facility inside of a mountain. Entering the facility, you find Professor Rhinefield, who explains the Blueprint is under threat from the Zerran. The Blueprint, controlling the satellite weapon firing randomly since you've landed, must be secured.
Capturing the lab, if you extract the Blueprint, the lab instantly destabilizes, forcing you to escape before it collapses around you. Assuming you escape, the UNF wants the Blueprint back, but the question enters your mind...should you give it to them? Or destroy it because it's too dangerous? Or keep it for yourself? After all, nobody from the lab is left...
